The Rolex Yachtmaster, one of the models in the Rolex Professional watch lineup was introduced in 1992 with this reference 16628 - which was in solid Yellow Gold. The Yachtmaster is designed as a higher-end luxury sports watch - with the introduction of Platinum and Everose Gold used on its bi-directional bezel. Later in 1999, Rolex introduced the 16622 - which is Rolex's version of the stainless steel and platinum (Rolesium).
Here we have one of the best steel sports watch from the crown in our opinion - the first Rolesium watch and the only one which has a unique platinum dial. Current generation Rolex Yachtmasters no longer have a platinum dial like this one here. This particular Rolex Yachtmaster 16622 was made in 2007 and had the transitional platinum dial - which is finer and more refined than the first generation dial from 1999-2006.
The watch has a substantial weight and feel, quite unlike other Rolex watches due to the Rolesium (platinum) dial and bezel. Interestingly enough, when worn on the wrist, it sits like a slim dress watch, due to its case design which makes it extremely comfortable even on smaller wrists. You'll love how well it wears even on smaller 6-inch wrists and never feels overpowering and thick like the Rolex Submariner. Honestly, we're extremely astonished by the 11.5mm thick case which wears very much like a Rolex Daytona than a dive watch.
If you look at the entire construction of the watch, you can see the resemblance to the submariner design language - but instead in a more refined, luxury-oriented case - much suited to be a luxury sports watch, which is what it is today. Oh, and did we mention that the platinum bi-directional bezel is such a joy to use and much more practical than a uni-directional one in day to day use?
