The Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight was launched in Baselworld 2018. Immediately it was a hit with the watch community due to its more vintage sized proportions. It is not surprise that the next watch in this series now comes in a stunning navy blue dial and bezel, inspired by the 'Blue Snowflake' Tudor Submariners from the 1970s.
What makes this Fifty-Eight special however is it’s truer to vintage proportions and appeals to those who want to wear something casual and balanced on the wrist, with its modest 39mm case diameter, 11.9mm thickness, 60 click blue aluminium bezel, elegant 20mm lugs with a tapered riveted steel bracelet and the in-house MT5402 chronometer certified movement with 70hrs power reserve. And best of all, it now comes with a 5 year warranty from Tudor.
Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight 'Navy Blue'
We wore the watch on a 6 inch (average slim asian) wrist size as pictured. It wears extremely comfortably, mostly due to the balanced proportions of the watch. As with all Black Bays, the feeling of wearing a well engineered and solid timepiece is an obvious one. Looking closely at the watch you'll notice the slightly raised box sapphire crystal, which reflects a little bit of light very subtlely. The screw in crown has a classic Tudor rose logo engraving on it, a nod to it's rich heritage - which I love. It's classically simple in every way, yet it has enough little details to draw the attention of your eye to the watch.
The blue dial and aluminium bezel really looks awesome. In darker conditions, the blue dial appears more dark blueish black, but in daylight it just looks fantastic. Blue dial watches are all the rage since 2019 and continues to look great on this watch. If you have the Tudor Black Bay Series (41mm models) like I do in my personal collection, you will immediately notice how much lighter this watch is overall. This is more well balanced overall compared to it's older and larger sibling. The entire design of this watch is made complete with the tapered bracelet, which of course removes much of the unweildy bulky feel of divers in general. This in my opinion, is why many people who own Rolex Submariners love their bracelets - it really does make or break the watch.
Although similar to the Black Bay Fifty-Eight in dimensions, the effect of the blue dial truly modernises this watch in every way. It is the ultimate sports diver watch, light enough to be comfortable all day round, tough enough to withstand any shocks and abuse as a G.A.D.A watch and extremely versatile. Wear it on the bracelet for formal settings, business settings, and if you really want the casual feel, swap it out for a nice NATO strap. It is a joy to wear and a joy to own.
